About Dr. David Dayya

Dr. Dayya is returning to continue his previous service to the community, offering comprehensive services in a medical office building that has served this community for 60 years – at 194 South Avenue, New Canaan.

Education

Dr. Dayya attended Rutgers, The State University of NJ, receiving his degree in Chemistry, and was recognized and awarded for outstanding achievement in this discipline.  He received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ) and completed his post-graduate residency training at University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ affiliated hospitals including: Union Memorial in Union, NJ; University Hospital, in Newark, NJ; and Saint Barnabas Hospital, an affiliate of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System in New York City.

Dr. Dayya holds a Masters degree and PhD in Public Health – Biostatistics through the University of Connecticut. His research interests have included: environmental toxins and their suspected associations with chronic diseases, conducted jointly with Fordham University; and non-healing diabetic wounds conducted jointly with the University of Connecticut.  Dr. Dayya remains active in research in the field of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.

Credentials and Awards

Dr. Dayya is board certified in Primary Care – Family Medicine, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, and Public Health. He is also certified in wound care.

He holds credentials in the field of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine as a Diving Medical Officer, and serves as a Divers Alert Network (DAN) referral consultant.  He is a certified Scuba Instructor with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors and the National Association of Underwater Instructors.  He has served as an associate co-medical director at Northwell Health – Phelps Hospital’s Division of Hyperbaric Medicine, with the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Dayya remains active in academic medicine and has been recognized and awarded for his achievements through his hospital institutional “Teaching Attending of the Year” Award for 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006.  He has been honored with a national award for teaching through the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM).

He has been recognized for his achievement as a clinical physician and awarded his institution’s award for “Clinical Excellence” in patient care.

Experience

Dr. Dayya is honored to have served twice with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, both with the Indian Health Service on a Native American Reservation assignment and with the National Health Service Corps in a medically underserved area for twelve years. 

His clinical roles have included serving as a Hospitalist, Primary Care Physician, Urgent Care Specialist, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Specialist, and a Wound Care Specialist at several hospital institutions including: Saint Barnabas Hospital – New York Presbyterian Healthcare System; Phelps Hospital – Northwell Health; Yale New Haven Hospital – Yale New Haven Health System; and Norwalk Hospital – Western Connecticut Health Network (now Nuvance Health).

Dr. Dayya holds faculty appointments with: the University of Vermont – College of Medicine; State University of New York – Upstate Medical University; New York Medical College; and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ.

Dr. Dayya holds medical staff appointments through: Greenwich Hospital; Yale New Haven Health System; Norwalk Hospital – Western Connecticut Health Network (now Nuvance Health); and Phelps Hospital – Northwell Health.
